The project leadership game
You become the project manager of the Go Green project and must ensure value creation from purpose to profit realization. You participate in an educational collegial race, creating fast progress and greatest value – you are engaged 100%
In the game you must choose different actions within the 6 management directions: management upwards concerning the project owner and steering committee, downwards leading the team, outwards for stakeholder management, inwards focusing on adjusting your leadership, forwards covering planning and organizing and backwards for feedback, evaluation and testing. Based on the choice of management measures, stakeholders will change their perception of the project. The stakeholders of the game have roles in the project team, the steering committee and the reference group, as well as the employees in the organization. The purpose of the game is to achieve the decided business impact and ensure maximum stakeholder satisfaction. During the game, you discuss your management decisions with other project managers and reflect on how you create value.
During the game you are in a group playing against other groups. You follow the development on the big screen. Along the way, we will stop and reflect on the results of the various groups. The game is completed in three rounds. During the game, you will receive information about the project’s progress and stakeholder satisfaction. You also have the opportunity to view individual stakeholders’ comments on the project process. Discover how your management decisions have implications for stakeholder satisfaction.
The case
The case takes place in an international group within the production of medical equipment for hospitals. A large part of the customers is the public health service. In the EU and in many other markets, the public sector demands that suppliers work actively with the UN Sustainable Development Goals and fulfill the goals relevant to their products and production. Therefore, the project must be completed.
Project Go Green
The project aims to improve the measurement accuracy of one of the company’s core products. It will also require changes in the production process as new technology can reduce energy consumption and waste. This entire transition places new demands on the production staff’s skills and their work processes. The updated product also impact service personnel and sales force. For customers to experience the benefits from the new features of the product, the sales force must undertake a new advisory task.
The game takes four hours to complete and is developed in a collaboration between John Ryding Olsson and the gaming company Actee. Their learning games are used in 30 countries and have more than 250,000 users.
